1960s

Shirley (Robinson) Pearman and Wendy (Finch-Noyes) Trethewey (BFA 鈥62) recently had a mini-reunion in Bermuda after not seeing each other for 60 years!

1970s

Bill DeGrace ('75) writes: "I recently joined the Dukes of Kent barbershop harmony chorus, based in Kentville, NS. Two long-standing chorus members are fellow alumni Jeff Bursey (鈥73) and Phil Zamora (鈥73).  

1990s

Alumnus Stephen Muise ('94) won the Stompin' Tom Award for the Cape Breton Region at the East Coast Music Awards. The five Stompin鈥 Tom Awards recognize one individual in each of ECMA鈥檚 five geographical regions who has made a long-term contribution to the East Coast music industry and has paved the road for many successful East Coast artists of today. 

Congratulations to award-winning editorial cartoonist and alumnus Michael de Adder ('91, LLD '20) on being appointed to the prestigious Order of Canada 鈥 recognizing his outstanding contributions to the world of editorial cartooning. 

"I feel incredibly proud, incredibly honoured," he says. 

Starting his journey at Mount A as a cartoonist for the Argosy, Michael's passion for cartooning flourished while studying painting. With a career spanning over two decades, de Adder's impactful cartoons have graced publications like The Chronicle Herald, the Toronto Star, and The Washington Post. His creative process involves keen observation of current events, allowing him to craft relevant and thought-provoking opinions for the day. 

Mike Hennessy (鈥96) has been appointed as Doxim's new CEO. With an illustrious career trajectory at Doxim since 2017, initially as Chief Revenue Officer and later as President, Hennessy has been instrumental in propelling the company's growth and value. With a robust background, including tenure as North American GM at ScribbleLive and VP of North American Sales at [24]7-Inc., Hennessy brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His academic credentials, comprising an MBA from Queen鈥檚 University and a Bachelor's Degree from 果冻传煤 University. Hennessy expresses enthusiasm for advancing Doxim's market position with its modern CCM Platform and targeted market strategies, ensuring a promising trajectory for the company in the coming years.  Congratulations Micheal!  

2000s

Luke Mungall (鈥20) shares a heartwarming love story that began at 果冻传煤. Maddy Russell (鈥20) and Luke met in 2016 in Hunton House. They had rooms directly across from each other and hit it off right away.

Their connection blossomed during their time at 果冻传煤, leading to a romance that out lasted undergrad, postgrad pursuits in different locations, and a global pandemic.  

On December 30, 2023, Luke brought Maddy back to Sackville for lunch and proposed at the Waterfowl Park, the place where it all began! 

2010s

Bradley Daye (鈥11) was named 鈥2024 Business Leader of the Year鈥 by the Halifax Chamber of Commerce.

2020s

Samuel McGaw (鈥23) is a 2023 SCI Canada Student Merit Award winner!  

In 2019, Samuel embarked on a four-year undergraduate biochemistry program at 果冻传煤 University, finishing in his graduation in May 2023 with first-class honours and the prestigious Governor General鈥檚 Silver Medal. His academic journey was marked by notable achievements, including pioneering research endeavours. During his undergraduate years, Samuel conducted groundbreaking research, such as analyzing the cardiovascular stress response of freshwater teleosts under a taurine deficiency, leading to significant findings published in the Journal of Experimental Biology. Additionally, he contributed to impactful projects, such as creating an online database on axillary lymph node surgeries' effects on breast cancer recurrence during an internship at the Upper River Valley Hospital Department of Surgery. 

The SCI Canada Student Merit Award is awarded annually to the student who has achieved the highest standing in the 4th and final year of a chemistry, biochemistry or chemical engineering undergraduate programme.  In addition to completing such a programme within 4 years, the recipient of the award must have attained a minimum average of 75%.
